Providing a well-curated menu of healthy vegetarian offerings, this Koreatown haunt is a veritable shrine to vegetarian cuisine with a decidedly and not unexpected Asian milieu. Aside from ensuring that meat doesn't get past the door, Hangawi offers one of the best selections of gluten-free Asian cuisine in the city, replete with tofu-infused options, and entrees like organic, gluten-free zen noodles with a panoply of mushrooms and assorted vegetables in brown sauce and fresh grilled todok strips in a gluten-free tamari soy sauce. Every month, the kitchen presents a new prix fixe tasting menu with limited options that ensure your meal can't possibly be mismatched. As for the dinner menu, the spicy kimchi pancakes and "fritters galore" take the cake for appetizers, and the Mongolian hot pot, mushroom sizzler on a stone plate, and kimchi stone bowl rice with vegetables stand at the top of the entrees.
