Few niche museums have the diverse and fascinating offerings such as the Café at the Rubin Museum of Art. From sandwiches to hot entrees (generally Indian or Himalayan-themed) to salads and exotic desserts and unusual beverages, the intimate setting on the ground floor of the museum makes this an ideal place for a lunch, a late-afternoon refresher or light meal. With a menu designed by acclaimed chef Vikas Khanna, the Café at RMA offers a nice variety of specials as well as the "naanini" wraps, Tibetan momos, and savory rice bowls.
Evening events are augmented by frequent live-music performances and other superb offerings such as films, lectures and art openings at the museum. Members get a 10% discount at the café.
Friday evenings the space is transformed into K2 lounge, featuring a DJ spinning tunes and two-for-one cocktails before 7 pm. Asian-inspired tapas make for a festive mood. Given the terrific Friday-evening events at the museum, the lounge is generally packed full. A real must!
